Dental Implants in Sault Ste. Marie
What is a Dental Implant?
When a tooth needs to be replaced, your dentist surgically places an implant or artificial root into your jaw bone to support the replacement of the tooth – usually a dental crown.
Left untreated, the gaps left by missing teeth can result in tooth misalignment, difficulty eating and talking, and even jaw bone deterioration.
Together, a dental implant and tooth replacement look and act like a natural tooth.
Uses For Dental Implants
Missing teeth must be replaced to preserve your longterm oral health. Dental implants can help to:
- Prevent surrounding teeth from shifting
- Resolve jaw joint pain or bite issue
- Improve chewing, speech and digestion
- Restore or enhance facial tissues
- Support a dental crown, dental bridge or dentures
Dental Implants in Sault Ste. Marie: Our Process
A dental implant has two parts: a titanium rod that is surgically placed in the jaw bone to function as the root of the tooth, and an abutment that screws into the rod.
Your dentist will place the titanium rod into your jaw bone beneath the gum tissue. The gum tissue is then stitched. As the tissue heals, the titanium implant will bond with the bone and attach to the gum.
Next, your dentist will attach the abutment to the implant. Finally, they will attach a tooth replacement to the abutment creating the appearance and function of a natural tooth.
