Root Canals in Sault Ste. Marie
What is a Root Canal?
When the internal pulp in a tooth becomes infected, the standard treatment is a root canal.
During a root canal, your dentist will remove any decay, bacteria and nerves from inside your damaged tooth. Then, they fill in the space with medicated dental materials to seal it and to help prevent further decay. In some cases, a dental crown is placed to stabilize the tooth.
Make a dental appointment to find out if you need a root canal. Our dentists will be able to diagnose the issue, and recommend suitable treatment.
Signs & Symptoms
You may need a root canal if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- An abscess (or pimple) on the gums
- Sensitivity to hot and cold
- Severe toothache pain
- Swelling and/or tenderness
The Importance of Preserving Natural Teeth
Whenever possible, your dentist will work to save a damaged tooth rather than extracting it.
Removing a damaged tooth is usually not the ideal solution because extractions are more invasive than other dental procedures. In addition, missing teeth can cause several related dental problems that can be more severe than the original one.
For this reason, missing teeth should always be replaced, and this can end up being more expensive than treating the original problem would have been.
