What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a  minimally invasive cosmetic treatment in which a tooth-coloured composite material is applied to a tooth, sculpted into shape, hardened and then polished. It's called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth.

Dental bonding is usually completed in one appointment, and can provide you with a more symmetrical, consistent-looking smile.

As a supplement to your cosmetic dental treatment, dental bonding is a minimally invasive way to help you achieve the appearance you want for your smile.

Benefits of Bonding

Dental bonding is typically used to restore chipped or discoloured teeth. It can also be used to narrow gaps between teeth or to alter tooth shape and colour.

Your dentist uses a colour scale to tint the composite resin to closely match the colour of your natural teeth so that it blends in.

The Bonding Process

During the dental bonding process, your dentist will apply the composite to your tooth in layers, and then use a light to harden each layer.

Once the composite resin is hardened, your dentist will shape and polish it to form your tooth. The finished tooth will look and feel similar to a natural tooth.
